Transfer for savings and budget

Postby Petie » Thu Apr 07, 2011 11:58 pm

Can anyone help me with setting up my budget?

I have just started using the program and I think its great but I'm having trouble figuring out how to show an amount transferred from a checking to a savings account in my budget. I know it will show in my budget if I input it as an expense but that doesn't work when I input the transfer between accounts.

I was thinking I could input it as a withdrawal from my checking and then a deposit into my savings but is there an easier way?

Help would be much appreciated :)

With the latest release (0.9.9.0) there is an option under View->Budgets: Include transfers in Totals.

This may solve your problem.

The reason it is only an option, is that it may actually throw out the true income/expense figures. A transfer is money from one account to another within the system. Now because a transfer can be concidered as either an income or as an expense, depending on what account you are refering to, to the overall system it is neither.

This is the reason for not including transfers in income/expense figures. I refer you to the Money Manager Ex Concepts in the Help manual.

If there is a simple model which can express this better, please let us know.
